University Senate passes new Constitution; makes history.

03/12/08 (11:13 pm) | News | By: Evan Lemoine

During the late hours of a Tuesday, March 11th special meeting, the Johnson & Wales University Senate adopted a new Constitution and established Bylaws.

The new Constitution made history by dividing the Association into three equal branches and gives all students more ways to get involved. Also, for the first time, the Senate amended the membership qualifications, eliminating the need for students to be classified as a day student. The new wording allows for all full-time, undergraduate students to be involved.

The University Senate also approved Bylaws which will also govern the Association. It includes administrative procedures for the Association President, University Senate, House of Representatives, and the Judicial Court.

With the new Constitution in place, students will now have the opportunity to vote on amendments to the Constitution. “The coming election will be exciting because it will challenge our new structure force us to operate the way we’ve been operating but never had formally adopted,” Chief Justice Evan Lemoine stated.

The new Constitution and Bylaws will be posted to the web site soon. Check back for more details.
